"The Middle School at MVCDS creates a culture that allows each student to gain the confidence to express their unique individuality and gain a true sense of self. Maumee Valley Middle School’s unique schedule provides students the opportunity to explore their passions and interests during eXtended-Block (X-Block). 学生进行研究, connect with professionals outside of the school, meet with their on-campus mentors to learn more about a topic in which they are interested. Information gathered is presented by students to the school and local community through projects, 建议, 和演示.

Middle School students learn in an interdisciplinary, project-based learning environment. Lessons often revolve around local habitats and the nature provided by the campus to conduct experiments that make learning relevant to students. Outdoor 科学 labs allow us access to Swan Creek, which serves as the foundation of earth 科学, 生物学, chemistry concepts through a stream analysis unit. A service-learning component of the curriculum emphasizes the students’ civic responsibilities to their environment.

世界语言

Middle School students study Spanish or American Sign Language. The Spanish program uses a proficiency-based model, which emphasizes communication in speaking, 听, 阅读, 和写作. Culture is embedded in the student’s learning as they listen to Spanish music, 阅读真实文本, connect with peers from Spanish-speaking countries. 每年, our Middle School welcomes students from Steiner School, giving students the opportunity to practice their language skills as they learn about day-to-day life in Ecuador.

Students explore the formal elements of art through projects, which often involve more than one medium. They are encouraged to think creatively while solving a problem. Improving skills, increasing vocabulary, developing compositions, will be emphasized.
